Beekeeping Program

The Hudson Gardens is home to an apiary which has been in existence for over a decade. The honeybee hives at The Hudson Gardens are intended to be educational, alerting the community to the benefits of honeybees and to gain support for their preservation. The honeybees at Hudson Gardens promote pollination both within and outside of our 30 acres, and enhance the propagation of native plants and crops in the local community.

The beehives are maintained by volunteer beekeepers that are responsible for all aspects of hive management. The hives are maintained with natural management methods which are minimally invasive, chemical free, and non-toxic. The honey is harvested for individual use by the beekeepers and is not available for sale to the public.

The Hudson Gardens provides opportunities for new beekeepers to learn the craft with the guidance of an experienced beekeeper through the Beekeeping Program. Classes related to honeybees and beekeeping are held throughout the season, and each year, a small group of novice beekeepers are selected to keep their hives at Hudson Gardens.
